Arezzo

Arezzo, surrounded by 4 valleys, is the connecting link of the territory. It was one of the twelve main Etruscan cities and during the Roman period did not suffer the same decline as the others, thanks to the presence of Mecenate, close collaborator of the Emperor Augustus. The wealthy state that has always distinguished it is clearly evident from the elegance of both the civil and religious buildings. Its central position has always facilitated the arrival and the absorption of new artistic and cultural applications, stimulating the creativity of various native and not-native artists.

Whoever decides to visit Arezzo cannot miss a visit to the church of Saint Domenic to admire the Crucifix by Cimabue, the portal with the cycle of the months of the Parish church, The legend of the holy cross frescoed by Piero della Francesca in Saint Francis church and the stained glasses by Guillame Marcillat in the Cathedral. The city also preserves other treasures such as the Medieval and Modern Art Museum, the MUDAS, the Archeological museum and the Vasari’s house where the architect, scholar and painter could express all his brilliant creativity.

Piazza Grande is the heart of the city and it opens up to visitors like a scenery; in June and September it becomes the stage of the Saracin Joust, the most important and most awaited historical reenactment. The fortress rises at the top; destroyed and rebuilt several times because of the extremely complex political situation, it is the unquestioned symbol of the fearless nature of the inhabitants, reluctant to any kind of domination. Since 1968, every first Sunday of the month and the previous Saturday, Piazza Grande and the city streets host an Antique Fair where collectors, experts or simply curious people can dabble in seeking rare and original items.
